WoF Retro Quickcap: January 21, 2003

Last WHEEL dishonorable of 2022 goes to a random S20 episode with the theme week being American Travel. This week (plus Teen Best Friends) use the 1997 variant of the main puzzle solve cue for some reason.

Contestants that might have a chance to embark on some CONNECTING FLIGHTS
Sal Bottone: Waterford, CT. Structural designer who’s married 23 years with a son.
Hilda Patrician: Montrose, CA. Pharmateutical sales rep/oxygen respiratory, also a 15-year piano player and a 5-year teacher, plus she coaches fastball and is married to Patrick for 3 months.
Shannon Stovern: Conyers. Born and raised in Georgia making her a “True Georgia Peach”, and she’s a mother of one (married 5 years to Brett; her son is named Harrison). She enjoys tennis, softball and water skiing.

Final Scores: Hilda: DESERVING $500 GOOSEEGG/Shannon: $8,150/Sal: $6,900

GT: $15,550
NO BANKRUPT TRASH THANKFULLY

Scary Moments

In R1…

_ _ _ I _ I N _
W I T H / T H E
T O _ / D O W N

…after picking up the $10K, Sal makes a COSTLY E REPURCHASE, costing him $13,900. Hilda doesn’t do any better with a D repeat two spins later (she probably had DRIVING on her mind, which made no sense at all.

In R2…

R U _ _ E R
C H I C K E N / C A E S A R
S A L A D

Hilda BOMBS OUT thinking the remaining consonant pair is an M. If that isn’t bad enough, Shannon wastes a $9,900 Jackpot opportunity with a P – UGH.

In the next round, Sal spins up a FATAL LaT to let another five-figure opportunity go to waste ($13,700; he called the T’s on $3,500). Later…

C O U N T R Y
M U S I C / S T _ R
S _ _ N I _ / T _ _ I N

Hilda calls a questionable dud of G.

R4 (which was a full speed-up) was the last case of a three-liner appearing in this part of the game, but it wouldn’t matter as Sal ended up being a consonant short of a win (and Pat was two spokes away from $5K, which really would’ve made up for some lost ground).

BR Vehicles: Nissan 350Z, Acura MDX ($38,800)

BR Category: ON THE MAP

Bonus Round: Despite a generous amount of help, Shannon still blanks on WINNIPEG, costing her $50K. It could’ve been worse, though, had she landed on the C next door (she spun orange), she would’ve lost $100K.

Still, she’s got some explaining to do regarding that baffling loss.

Closing Chat: Pat talks about how he was standing in the shower in the morning. When he looks at his stomach as he often does, the light sometimes hits it, and it looks like the upside down face of VP Dick Cheney. Vanna is speechless (same for me). This is the kind of flack that makes Pat a popular target for Twitter clickbait stories.

My Rating: 2 (only because of no Bankrupt trash)

WoF Fantasy Recap: March 26, 2022

My last episode for a pretty long time is themed around a Road Trip.

We have Faith, Sarah and Farah playing.

Final Scores
Faith: $17,986 cash & Aruba/Sarah: $7,900/Farah: $2,500

GT: $28,386

Tonight’s Bankrupt Trash: around $2K and the WC

We had a $0 puzzle win in R2 because Sarah’s not much of a gambler.

BR Cars: Winnebago Solis ($118,057), Honda Accord Hybrid Touring ($38,025)

BR Categories: PEOPLE/PROPER NAME/WAYD?

$250K Bonus Round: Despite picking the hot vowel, Faith still didn’t ID the TAMPA BAY RAYS and lost $100K. Then again, she’s not a big baseball fan.

Scary Moments

Too many duds again. Also, Zakia failed to claim $12,400 in R3.

Speed-Up was an absolute nightmare as well.

TBH, she didn’t like any of the categories offered here.

WoF Fantasy Recap: 2/26/2022

The Hawaii week on the actual show was quite dismal. Let’s see if my fantasy birthday episode about Wheel Around The World was any better…

Today’s contestants are Farah, Sarah and Faith.

Final Scores
Farah: $14K cash & cruise/Sarah: $10,200/Faith: $5K

GT: $29,200
Tonight’s Bankrupt Trash: None that I could remember

Scary Moments

Too many duds/penalties knocked those scores low; we were $150 above the minimum at the end of R2.

Faith left behind $17,796 cash & Collette tour of Egypt/Jordan in R3.

BR Cars: VW Golf GTI SE ($37,485); Volvo XC40 T5 AWD R-Design ($48,115)

BR Categories: PHRASE/PLACE/THING

WoF Fantasy Quickcap: Super Bowl ’22

It’s a salute to the NFL!

Today’s contestants are…Zakia, Faith and Farah. Amir decided to join in the second half (but sit in as an advisor).

Final Scores
Zakia: $1K GOOSEEGG/Faith: $26,715 cash & MEX/Farah: $4,500

GT: $32.215
Tonight’s Bankrupt Trash: around $5K and the MDW

Scary Moments

Faith CRASHED on the EXPRESS, causing her to lose around $2.5K and the MDW. Amir influenced her to get on the EXPRESS in the first spin of the round as well, so…

…also, that round had a $0 puzzle solve. It’s a bit forgiving since she has a comfortable lead.

BR Cars: Hyundai Santa Cruz SEL Premium ($37,505), GMC Yukon SLT 4WD ($68,310)

BR Categories: PHRASE/F&G/PEOPLE

$250K Bonus Round: Faith didn’t pull out A KING OF CLUBS for $100K.

But I will say that she did show improvements with her gameplay. Wordle definitely helped.

Scary Moments

The Speed-Up was an absolute trainwreck too.

WoF Fantasy Recap on Switch

Just because I was bored, I got myself WHEEL on the Nintendo Switch (which plays akin to the S34 rules, but R4 is always a full Speed-Up w/ the yellow $900 being a potential FS space; it’s merely a port of that game from the PS4 and Xbox One). It’s a fun (but flawed) game that I will review on Gomez Vintage Reviews soon.

The prize wedge and PP (not themed, unfortunately) prize is a $7,320 trip to a place of your choice and the gift tag is to a company of your choice. Also, the 1/2 Car is worth $46,840 (same as the BR car…yes really).

Today’s players are Ranch, Me and KC. The hosts are named Discount Pat and Discount Vanna (because Ubisoft can’t afford the real Pat & Vanna to participate for some reason…).

WoF Fantasy Quickcap: New Years’ ’21-’22

I started this in 2021 (R1-part of R3) and ended it in 2022 (rest of R3 onwards). With a lengthy commercial break, it took just over an hour. 😛

Today’s contestants are…Sarah, Amir and Farah. Faith took Amir’s position in the early parts, but quit because she was not feeling well.

Final Scores
Sarah: $15,598 cash & Ireland/Amir: $25,400/Farah: $4K

GT: $44,998
Tonight’s Bankrupt Trash: $4K + MDW

Scary Moments (all in R3)

Farah BANKRUPTed the MDW and we took a commercial break to watch the ball drop.

Amir didn’t hop on the Express w/ one consonant remaining…but in his defense, he didn’t know the puzzle at first and got lucky with that last consonant call. He was lucky that didn’t cost him the game.

BR Cars: Chevrolet Camaro LT1 ($39,995), Lexus UX 250h ($37,135)
