Contestant of the Week for January 9-13, 2023

Yogesh Raut, known as one of America’s (if not the world’s) greatest quizzers, is your Contestant of the Week. In just three days on the show going into the weekend, he has certainly lived up to that reputation scoring $41,601 in his first game, pulled off the show’s first TS-free regular-play game since 2/25/1998 and currently holds a 3-day total of $96,403 despite his conservative DD wagers, and he already looking like a strong candidate to join the 2023-24 roster (if he can be more aggressive w/ his DD wagers and have some runaway games, that is)!

Honorable mentions:

-Reginald & Rachel have racked up $88K on the premiere of the CBS Lingo revival.

-We have managed to pull off going 4-1 in WoF BR puzzles this week for the second week in a row despite mostly having difficult puzzles (Angela Proyer-Tapp’s shocking Monday solve set the precedent) to put us 8-2 overall to start 2023!

-The Georgia Bulldogs became the first NCAA football team since Alabama in 2011-12 to win the national championship in back-to-back seasons, and did so while being undefeated.

-The BD was won on-target twice this week.

-Kimberly Scamman & Donovan Wilson’s big wins on Thursday, Irma Vega’s win against the odds of Vend-O-Price in this week’s grocery store employees primetime special and perfect first half of Monday’s episode were just the few highlights of this otherwise miserable week of TPiR.

-David & Jessa turned the week around in the MR on 25 Words or Less.

As much as Kimberly’s Pass the Buck win was nice, I hate to say that she along w/ Ronnie Montgomery (also won his playing of Cliff Hangers) are your Zonk Contestants of the Week because they triggered OUR FIFTH DOUBLE OVER THIS SEASON FOR THE SECOND WEEK IN A ROW.

Dishonorable mentions:

-Apart from the car game wins, the TPiR Grocery Store Employees primetime special really was underwhelming at best, as Stephan Choi flopped on his playing of Pick-a-Pair then lost the showcase missing out on over a potential $60K+ in prizes. Guess you could say Jeffery Scott’s BRUTAL PLAYING of, well, Grocery Game, mostly set the tone for the special.

-Aaron Estrada suffered the same fate as Jeffery on Gridlock, as did Linda Sanders on Danger Price during a winless Friday episode (does not count as skunked due to a partial from Plinko) as did Rene w/ Timeline on LMaD knowing nothing about 90s TV shows (that show didn’t fare too much better either this week (yet another weekly car game SKUNK) despite the two on-target BD wins, decent # of Zonk survivors and perfect aired QD week). And adding insult to injury, Gas Money was also played this week.

-Bellamie & Co. were banking so hard for this week of Wheel to be full of BR losses, but after starting 3-0, they finally got their way at the expense of Keith Booze on Thursday, which resulted in him costing us a PBRW w/ Friday’s puzzle, at least IMO, being the easiest all week.

-Both Sony shows on Friday had gooseegg victims: Brenda Crowell w/ a -$600 score on J! and Rayki Thomas being a victim of tough luck in a rather unexciting Wheel episode full of penalties.

Tegan Durshin, an underwriting assistant for an insurance co. (he just started there and he’s in training) who likes to play golf, tennis and all kinds of sports in his free time (and collect golf balls; he hit a hole in one & won $10K in his first tournament) from Lehighton, PA
Rayki Thomas, a married lady to Robert (they write music together; he does most of the work while she does most of the critiquing) w/ two daughters and a grandson from Northern NJ

GT: an underwhelming $31,250
Tonight’s Bankrupt Trash (minus MW $): $9,450 cash & SS + WC
