J! Retro Quickcap: 12/5/2016

Today’s challengers
-Matthew Martinez, a draft equipment salesman from San Antonio, TX
-Yi Deng, a subrights assistant from Jersey City, NJ

Returning champion: Tim Aten (1-day $35,000)

Correct/Incorrect: 48/9
Rebounds/Rebound Attempts: 3/4

Unplayed Clues ($ left on the board): 0 ($0)

Coryat Score: $34,800
Lach Trash: $9,800 from 9 triple stumpers
Coryat lost to incorrect responses (less double-correct responses): $9,400

Daily Double Correct Answers: 0 (DDS #5)

This was our fifth Daily Double SKUNKING of the 33rd season which was a dubious pace to this point.

Pre-FJ! Scores: Yi: $12K/Matthew: $7,600/Tim: $6,800 (Combined: $26,400)

Final Jeopardy! Correct Answers: 1

BUSTED OUT: Matthew

Winner: Tim ($12,800 (2-day $47,800))

Tim went on a 8-day $100K+ run for Cindy Stowell to go on a 7-day $100K+ run after during that same 15-day stretch.

Cindy unfortunately died of stage IV cancer on the same day this episode aired before her run was shown on television. Prior to her appearance, she had been given a prognosis that she had only months to live. May she Rest In Peace.

Meanwhile, Tim got as far as a third place finish in Game 3 of the Semifinals (made it there via wildcard) of the 2017 Tournament of Champions.

CWoF Quickcap: 12/6/2022 — 🎄HOLIDAY SPECIAL🎄

WOF logo

Celebs on this special night
Kal Penn, actor & author featured in the movie Smile, Paramount Plus, and Surina & Mel’s “Hot Mess Holiday” playing for Myrtle Avenue Revitalization Project, a community development organization in Brooklyn
Shasheer Zamata, actress & comedian who was on SNL for four years, now abc’s “Home Economics” who has a holiday episode airing this week; she’s currently in two other series: Woke on Hulu and a podcast with her best friend Nicole Byer (she was on the show on Feb. 11, 2021) and is playing for SELAH Neighborhood Homeless Coalition, an organization that helps the unhoused community get the resources they need and get political recognition
Jack Black, actor & singer who was on the film The Holiday and in the post-Super Bowl episode of The Office with Cloris Leachman, also does a lot of voiceover stuff and will be featured in the upcoming Super Mario movie along with Chris Pratt; he’s playing for 24th Street Theatre, an organization that teaches theater to intercity youths and kids all across Los Angeles County (FUN FACT: Jack will be starring as Bowser in that movie)

Game 1

Final Scores: Sasheer: SHUTOUT/Jack: $41,650/Kal: $16K

G1 GT: $57,650
G1 Bankrupt Trash: $6,750 + MDW

Scary moments

-Once again, this whole half w/ all those duds & repeats, especially R3 (and we got a $0 puzzle win in R1).

Favorable category set: THINGS/AtH/F&D

…or so I thought. OK, who’s encouraging all these contestants to pick that category?!?! -___-

$100K Bonus Round: Jack does not notice the $50K hidden under these RED RIBBONS. Even w/ this category choice that’s no excuse for why this wasn’t solved.

Game 2

Final Scores: SasheerDOUBLE SHUTOUT ($30K min.)/Jack: $43,900 ($85,550 so far)/Kal: $11K ($30K min.)

G2 GT: $54,900
G2 Bankrupt Trash: $1,500

Scary moments

-We got two $0 puzzle wins, in R1 because…

D E L U X E
F U L L – _ I _ E
L E _ / L A M P

Jack is for sure gonna go viral after he misses w/ DELUXE FULL-TIME LEG LAMP. And as for R2, due to an unfortunate LaT rearing its ugly head on Sasheer. At least R3 which was a full S-U wasn’t a total disaster this time (likely because there wasn’t a lot of time for it to be).

Categories to hopefully turn this lump of coal into a bundle of joy: F&G/THINGS/WAYD?

$100K Bonus Round: Those disappointed Wheel-Watchers are gonna be not-so-playfully THROWING SNOWBALLS at Jack for missing this easy $25K solve.

Charity Winnings: $145,550

This is taking a deep nosedive. -___-

My Rating: 4 (F+)

Skipps’ Rating: (Game 1: 2 (F-)) (G2 & Overall: 3 (F))

Mythman’s Rating: Gobsmacked 3/10

This was such a huge lump of coal for Sasheer.

Don’t forget to tune in to ABC primetime (8/7c) tonight for the Celebrity Wheel holiday special!

Ohana means family with these next Secret Santas
Taryn Williams, a coffee mug collector who graduated from law school, makes her own candles and wine, and enjoys going to Dodgers and Lakers games from Rancho Cucamonga, CA
James Valletti, a guy who casted and directed a high school theater production featuring Lady Gaga from Palm Springs, CA
Gina Leary, a registered nurse for 35 years married to Nat w/ three adult children (and at this couple’s wedding reception, she wore the Minnie ears w/ the veil while he wore the top hat w/ Mickey ears) from Eustis, FL

Final Scores: Gina: $2K/Taryn: $25,664 cash & cruise/James: $31,550 (and all of that was from within the first two rds.!!!)

GT: a whopping $59,214
Tonight’s Bankrupt Trash: $4,450 + WC

Scary moments

-There were two many penalties in Rds. 2&3.

-We almost had a TRIPLE STUMPER on the second triple toss-up.

WE UNFORTUNATELY GOT THAT TRIO: THING/PHRASE/WAYD?

$100K Bonus Round: James isn’t AVOIDING HURDLES (those of which are Bellamie & Co.’s budget-saving setups) for $40K.

My Rating: 6 (D+) (too many duds)

J! Quickcap: 12/6/2022

Jeopardy! has announced they will be doing a High School Reunion tournament.

Today’s challengers
-Meghan Mello, an athletic trainer from North Smithfield, RI
-Andy Tirrell, a political science & international relations professor from S.D.

This is what he must do to move to 22 and that’s to win: Cris Pannullo (21-day $748,286)

Correct/Incorrect: 50/9
Rebounds/Rebound Attempts: 3/5

Unplayed Clues ($ left on the board): 0 ($0)

Coryat Score: $32,200 (-$3,800 vs. yesterday)
Lach Trash: $10,600 from 9 triple stumpers (-$400 and +/-0 TS’s vs. yesterday)
Coryat lost to incorrect responses (less double-correct responses): $11,200 (+$4,200 vs. yesterday)

Daily Double Correct Answers: 2

Pre-FJ! Scores: Cris: $12,600/Andy: $11,900/Meghan: $4,200 (Combined: $28,700)

I think missing that second Daily Double cost him dearly.

Final Jeopardy! Correct Answers: 1

Winner: Andy ($15,399)

Cris departs w/ $749,286, comfortably in 5th in regular-play winnings and less than $30K in back of David Madden for 7th in all-time winnings, and top-spot in the 2023-24 ToC roster!

And Andy Saunders has some irony for us: “Andy [Tirrell] is the first player in regular play to come back from being in the negatives after the Jeopardy! round to win the game since Matt Amodio (in Matt’s 22nd game, ironically enough) on September 16, 2021.”

We have these opponents for the giant-killer, Tammy Groner from Hamilton, NJ and Ron Cheung from Lakewood, OH.
