J! Retro Quickcap: 7/18/2018

This midweek episode of the penultimate week of the 34th season AIN’T gonna be pretty… -__-

Today’s challengers
-Caitlion O’Neill, a vegan cheesemaker from New Orleans, LA
-Kyle Adams, a communications manager from Monument, CO

Embracing every moment of his second chance: Ryan Fenster (5-day $113,798 (excl. $1K consolation))

For those not familiar w/ him, Ryan Fenster previously went on a 4-day $90,198 run on the show from January 28th to Feburary 2nd earlier in the year. He was then invited back to the show after a technical ruling from judges on a clue that was deemed incorrect due to incorrect wording. Read more about it HERE.

Correct/Incorrect: 44/12
Rebounds/Rebound Attempts: 4/5

Unplayed Clues ($ left on the board): 2 ($1,400)

Coryat Score: a modest $32,000 (-$2,000 vs. yesterday)
Lach Trash: $10,800 from 11 triple stumpers (+$2,200 and +4 TS’s vs. yesterday)
Coryat lost to incorrect responses (less double-correct responses): $9,800 (-$400 vs. yesterday)

Daily Double Correct Answers: (DDS #17)

And that was our 17th and final DD SKUNKING this season. Also, that is the lowest-recorded DD Efficiency score (-291) for regular-play in Andy Saunder’s data table to date (since 10/4/2004). See it HERE.

Oh, and guess what? IT WAS A DQ DUE TO RYAN TRYING TO SAY A CORRECT RESPONSE WHICH IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT SEALED THE FATE FOR THIS SKUNKING.

Pre-FJ! Scores: Kyle: $10,600/Ryan: $6,800/Caitlion: $5,600 (Combined: a pathetic $23K)

Final Jeopardy! Correct Answers: 1

Winner: Ryan ($13,599 (6-day $127,697 (excl. $1K consolation)))

Don’t worry, ladies and gentlemen — Because we would rebound the next day w/ A CLEAN SWEEP (You can see on an old recap of that episode written on Gomez Reviews HERE).

Ryan’s second run would last until the 20th where he departed w/ $130,397 (incl. both the $1K from the first time and $2K from the second time). He would not advance past the quarterfinals of the 2019 Tournament of Champions and took home the $5K elimination prize.

deepscan’s Rating: 2 out of 10 (Losing show)

Skipps’ Rating: 3 (F)

My Rating: 2 (F-)

Thanks to Ryan’s mistake, Trebek has stumped the panels on all of our DDs.

TPiR Retro Quickcap: 4/12/2018

First Four: Rafael Munguia, Michelle Hartley, Alexis Hill and Brian Austin
Range Game: Alexis ($1,750) came up PAINFULLY SHORT by $44

Next in play: Vanessa Sam
Switch?: Michelle ($899) switched the right prices (GT: $7,416)

Coming next: Samantha Mehalko
Gridlock: Brian ($1,630) got caught up in a traffic jam and missed out on the Kia Forte LX

SCSD #1 Winner: Alexis

Next up: Edla Berggreen (just turned 85 shortly before taping)
Check Game: Edla ($1,120) cashed in for her new bedroom (GT: $9,029) (The pen’s ink died in-game so it required some effort to write any numbers.)

Next: Jack Cammarata
More or Less: Vanessa (by default; $1,399) more or less made a BIG MISTAKE thinking the exercise equipment would cost more than $3K and that right there was a TOTAL TRAINWRECK PLAYING on her part and also a car game wipeout (Why would you think it was that, lady?! -___-; Prizes Goes to Waste: Bowflex Max Trainer, Acer Laptop, the Holland Grill and the Nissan Frontier)

Last in line: Mandi Dean
1/2 Off: Rafael ($1,207) escaped from the FFBC to the winning half of this game! (GT: $11,613)

SCSD #2 Winner: Vanessa (Edla needed Drew’s help on both spins)

Showcase Winner: Vanessa ($36,101)

Miscellaneous: Vanessa is currently the only contestant to win the showcase despite wiping out on More or Less.

ant0824’s Rating: 3

Skipps’ Rating: 5 (D-) (Heartbreaking Range Game loss, and Vanessa’s guess on the first prize in More or Less really baffled me)

My Rating: 1 (F-)

More or Less a HORRIBLE call on the value of the first prize.

WoF Quickcap: 9/21/2022

Midweek left-to-right trio
Renee Walsh, a beach person married to Jim for 23 years from Oakhurst, NJ
Jacqueline Mayuga, a gym rat who’s been training for power lifting for almost six months (her first competition is coming up soon) from San Bernardino, CA
Tanino Privitera, a man who speaks four languages and has a mom who’s an Italian immigrant (she watches the show religiously but never solves a puzzle) from Cave Creek, AZ

Final Scores: Renee: $9,900/Jacqueline: $11,100 cash & Maui/Tanino$17,450 cash & CA

GT: $38,450
Tonight’s Bankrupt Trash: $2,700 + MDW

Scary moments (oh brother…)

-We had a NULL CYCLE left intact in R1.

-Also the R1 puzzle (WARM WET & WILD) got many reactions from viewers seeing it as NSFW as seen HERE (This article (courtesy of @adamrocks05259) also misspelled Tanino’s last name as confirmed by CC and Whitepages).

-In R2…

S N O _ _ O A _ D _ N G
& / S _ _ _ _ N G / O N
T H E / S A M E / D A _

I was afraid Jacqueline would say SNOWBOARDING AND SKIING ON THE SAME DAY to let $6,650 go down the drain, because that would be a letter short…and she did. Turning down the MW near LaT turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

-Brace yourselves for what happens in R3 — First, Tanino attempts to solve this w/ no money…

_ _ _ _ I N G
A / _ A _ A _ A

PEELING A BANANA won’t work when there’s just one N up there.  Furthermore, there were at least one NULL CYCLE cut out towards the end of the round.

-The second triple toss-up was almost a TRIPLE STUMPER. Considering how this game was going so far, we were in need of a CHANGE OF PACE.

-S-U took way too long and had way too many duds.

Generic set to choose from: THING/PHRASE/LT

$100K Bonus Round: This YOUNG KOALA climbs up the tree to give Tanino $45K and a guaranteed winning week (A better prize after losing the MDW AKA poetic justice, and on the same day both a double over and BD knockout occurred (AKA pulling a Dave for the latter; The last time this happened was on 4/11/2017; The last time the BR was won when a BD knockout occurred the same day during the latter show’s premiere week was 10/4/2017, and the last time the BR was won alongside a double over on the same day during the latter show’s premiere week was 10/30/2013))!

Tanino’s Final Total: $62,450 cash & CA

New GT: $83,450

J! Quickcap: 9/21/2022

A rule change is being considered by Michael Davies in his podcast Monday, and he first touched on the idea last week, where if a contestant sweeps an entire category they will be given a cash bonus! Now please do keep in mind that it will NOT affect the contestant’s current score as this will be extra cash to take home win or lose meaning it can stack w/ the $1K or $2K consolation prizes. It was not mentioned how much the bonus would be worth, but it was worth, say $500, and if a second place finisher were to sweep four categories, he/she could go home w/ $4K consolation ($2K consolation + $2K bonus). Read about it HERE.
