This week’s theme: Celebrating the Local Flavor of *Insert City Here* (Basically another GAC compilation week except four of those cities weren’t highlighted in the GAC weeks themselves; In the cold openings this week, you’ll be seeing greetings by news anchors of the local affiliates that broadcast the show.)

Celebrating the Local Flavor of New York (Bill Ritter and Sade Baderinwa of WABC-TV (They actually gave their greetings midgame before the PP/EXPRESS Round))

NY gals left to right
Jenn Sparano, a speech-language pathologist at Mildred E. Strang Middle School in Yorktown Heights from Pleasantville, NY (she was living in NYC before she moved home to live with her 98-yr.-old grandma during the pandemic)
Desire Garza, a sophomore at NYU (virtually) studying biology from La Crescenta, CA (born and raised in Queens, NY; she misses the authenticity of food, culture and richness of everything back there)
Mandy Gordon, catering business owner and fashion designer who learned about this show thanks to her dad (he unfortunately passed away last year) from Brooklyn

J! Quickcap: 1/31/2022

Unexpectedly, Mayim Bialik gets her next turn at hosting today as we wrap up the month of January. Oh, and let’s try to recover from last week’s meltdown after Amy Schneider’s departure.

And ABC has been doing a very poor job at promoting the National College Championship as we still don’t know the format it will be played in.

Contestant of the Week for January 24-28, 2022

Ilene Knebel from Wheel of Fortune is your Contestant of the Week… because SHE’S THE FIRST CIVILIAN GRAND PRIZE WINNER THIS SEASON WINNING $100,000 via defeating QU- trap!!!

Honorable mentions:

-Amy Schneider passed Matt Amodio for 2nd in most games won & became only the second player to ever cross 40 wins. She finally concluded her historic run on Wednesday (and just like James Holzhauer, was dethroned by a Chicago librarian) departing w/ $1,384,800 (incl. consolation) and a guaranteed spot in the ToC roster along w/ Matt Amodio, setting us up for a once-in-a-generation matchup there in the next ToC. The odds are still slightly in Matt’s favor, but we’ll see.

-Jason snapped a 7-game BD losing streak on LMaD Tuesday. Sadly, this turned out to be our only win this week, and this is including a primetime special.

-Thursday’s WoF match was the most competitive far and away this season so far. It LITERALLY ended in a PHOTO FINISH w/ Shiela Dudley eeking out w/ that COLOSSAL EXPRESS PR over Damien Dziepak w/ the Triple-TU sweep & late rally by *just $140* w/ Alyssa Boekel not far behind after escaping Jaws w/ that MW risk all combining for a whopping $67,390! But of course the PP mattered for Shiela to win, and even more troubling was that she was a one-round winner, and that proved to be so in the BR. But still, what a match.

Andre Rush from the Let’s Make a Deal primetime special airing on Bobbymgsk’s birthday is your Zonk Contestant of the Week. He made the wrong kind of history on the show that night…

HE PUT OUT AN ABSOLUTE TOTAL TRAINWRECK PLAYING OF ONE DIE GALAXY WHEN A $347,093 LAMBORGHINI HURACAN EVO SPYDER AWD WAS IN PLAY AND THAT WAS THE BIGGEST LOSS EVER IN ANY VERSION OF THE SHOW!!!!!!!!

MY GOODNESS. I am so sorry, man. At least he received consolation $, though.

Dishonorable mentions:

-Washington Post and the New York Times are in are in a TON of hot water w/ J! fans as they SPOILED AMY’S LOSS via PUSH NOTIFICATIONS!!

-Allaine Benson became the new-lowest showcase winner this season w/ $23,587 w/ only one PG won that day (and one partial). And this week of TPiR was just dismal overall.

-Lacy Johnson played HORRIBLY on Monday’s WoF episode w/ two critical duds (cost her over $12,850 cash & trip and $3K, respectively), but yet she somehow won only because she lucked out from her competitors’ misfortunes. And adding insult to injury, she chose THING for her BR category. We would like to have a VERBAL EXCHANGE w/ her for that choice which cost her the Volkswagen Tiguan, as well as her sloppy performance & undeserved win.

-TPiR also had three pricing games ending in total trainwrecks this week.

-Rhone Talsma, Amy’s slayer, O&D’d out w/ a FJ! bust & left w/ $30,600 which sent the rest of the week spiralling out of control & crashing even though Deepscan already declared a “Winning Week” for this show.

-Carrie Cadwallader would follow suit the next day as the lowest-scoring departer w/ $9,500 resulting in this show’s second losing week for returning champions this season.

-Nadine McDaniel-Allen WSD’d on her showcase by $131.

-Remember When ended in a heartbreaking bailout.

I hate to sound like such a spoiled Debbie Downer, but those post-Schneider matchups threw this week down the toilet. On the other hand, I can’t wait to see Amy & Matt match up in the next ToC, but if I had to wager between them I’d still give a slight edge to Matt, but ultimately it comes down to who nails those daily doubles, who’s quicker on the buzzer, if either of them could runaway, how the FJ! category & clue aligns to them & how their wagers work out.
